How the AI cart works

The cart is built through natural conversation. The customer can add items across as many messages as they like, change quantities, remove items, and ask questions in between. Cart persists for the entire conversation.

Prerequisites

Step-by-step setup

    Create a Shopify custom app

    In Shopify Admin → Settings → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps → Create an app. Name it "EmacronAI CRM".

    Configure Admin API access scopes

    In your custom app → Configuration → Admin API integration → click "Configure" and enable all of the following scopes:

    read_orders
write_orders
read_checkouts
read_customers
read_products
write_products
    ⚠️ write_orders is needed so the AI can create checkout orders from WhatsApp. write_products is needed for the AI to update product information.

    Install the app and copy the Access Token

    Click "Install app" → in the API credentials tab, copy the Admin API access token. You'll only see it once — save it securely.

    Connect in EmacronAI CRM

    Go to Settings → Integrations → Shopify → enter your store domain (e.g. mystore.myshopify.com) and paste your Admin API access token → Save. EmacronAI CRM validates the connection live before saving.

    Sync your Store

    Click "Sync Store" — this imports all your active products (with stock, pricing, images, tags), all customers, and automatically registers Shopify webhooks. Your WhatsApp AI Store is now live.

    ⚠️ Webhooks are registered automatically — you do NOT need to configure anything in Shopify Admin manually. EmacronAI CRM handles all webhook setup for you.

    Configure Order Notifications (optional)

    Go to Store → Settings → Notifications to configure WhatsApp alerts for new orders. Set customer and admin notification templates, and choose which phone numbers receive admin alerts.

    Go to Settings → AI Configuration → turn on "WhatsApp AI Pilot". This activates the conversational cart — your AI handles incoming orders, builds carts, and generates Shopify checkout links 24/7.

Real-time webhooks

EmacronAI CRM registers the following Shopify webhooks automatically when you click “Sync Store”. This is idempotent — safe to run multiple times. No manual setup in Shopify Admin is ever needed.

How it works: Webhooks are HMAC-signed by Shopify. EmacronAI CRM stores the shared secret and verifies every incoming request. Unverified requests are silently rejected. You never expose any credentials.

Troubleshooting

"Invalid store domain" error

Enter the domain exactly as: yourstore.myshopify.com — do not include https:// or a trailing slash.

AI cart not working — no checkout link sent

Ensure: (1) Shopify is connected and active, (2) AI Pilot is enabled in Settings → AI Mode, (3) Products are synced — the AI cannot order products it has not imported. Also verify your access token has write_orders scope.

Products not appearing after sync

Only active (published) products are imported. Draft or archived products are skipped. Set products to "Active" in Shopify and click "Sync Store" again.

Orders not loading in Store → Orders tab

Check that your access token has the read_orders scope enabled. Re-open the custom app in Shopify Admin → API credentials to verify.

Abandoned carts not appearing

Shopify only creates a checkout record after the customer enters their contact info. Carts where no email/phone was entered will not appear. Also requires read_checkouts scope.

Stock not updating after an order

Stock is decremented via the orders/paid webhook which is auto-registered during Sync Store. If you connected before the latest update, click "Sync Store" once more to re-register webhooks.

Webhooks not firing / products not updating in real-time

Click "Sync Store" once — this idempotently re-registers all webhooks. Check that WEBHOOK_BASE_URL is correctly set in your API server environment and is publicly accessible (not localhost).
